REGISTRATION FOR 2020-2021 HOCKEY SEASON
IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
The North York Knights Hockey Association (NYKHA) is ready for the 2020-2021 hockey season and we look forward to offering a full slate of Learn to Play, House League and Select programs once we receive the go-ahead from Hockey Canada and the Ontario Hockey Federation.
However, given the uncertainty over when and how social distancing and other health regulations currently in place to deal with COVID-19 will be eased, the NYKHA believes it prudent to delay the opening of the Learn to Play and House League registrations from the traditional mid-April date to June 1st. This decision was taken after careful consideration of the facts provided to us from our national, provincial and regional governing bodies and after discussions with other hockey associations. We have also considered the current guidance available from health and government experts who predict the acute phase of this crisis may be over by summer and that more information will be available on how regulations including group gatherings and sport activities will be eased into place.
Registration and Fees for 2020-2021
The unexpected and abrupt shutdown of the 2019-2020 hockey season effectively ended activities three weeks earlier than anticipated. Hence, the NYKHA Executive has decided to offer a credit towards the 2020-2021 registration fee to offset the loss of activity at the end of the last hockey season. The decision to offer a credit is in line with the one made by most hockey associations in the GTA faced with the same issue. The credit will be for $50 per player for House League registration while a $25 credit per player will be applied to the Learn to Play (including Extended LTP) registration fees for this season.
Acknowledging the unprecedented challenges for many families as a result of the economic shutdown and reflecting the uncertainty about the start of the 2020-2021 hockey season, the NYKHA Executive will be implementing a registration process with two instalment payments for this year. There will be no Early Bird discount this year because of the instalment payments and the unusual circumstances surrounding the registration process. As stated earlier, the registration process will open on June 1st and the first instalment will be due on that date. Of note, the credit for the loss of activity in 2019-2020 will be fully applied towards the first instalment. Thus, the Tyke to Bantam registration fee which would normally have been $275 for the first instalment on June 1st will be reduced to $225 to reflect the $50 credit. Similarly the Learn to Play registration fee (York Mills and Pleasantview) which would normally have been $175 for the first instalment on June 1st will be reduced to $150 to reflect the $25 credit.
The first instalment will secure a position for your child to participate in the Knights hockey program. If registration is delayed until the second instalment, the payment in full will be required for the program but there is the possibility that the player’s division or the LTP program may be full. The Knights reserve the right to close registration early for any division deemed to be full. Failure to make the second instalment payment on the date announced will mean that registration into the NYKHA for the 2020-2021 season will be nullified.
While the date of the first instalment is firmly set for June 1st, the date for the second instalment will be communicated as soon as possible on our website. The date of the second instalment will reflect the guidance of the Ontario Hockey Federation as well as provincial and local government and health authorities with respect to the start of group activities including minor hockey programs.
Registration will open on June 1st at 5:00pm and will use the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) for enrolment. The registration page for House League and Learn to Play on the Knights website will be fully updated and ready to accept registrants by 5:00pm on June 1st. If your child is a returning player, you will be able to enter the site using the email and password that was used in the previous year. (There is a system for retrieving your password if you have forgotten it. The Knights do not have a record of the password.) If your child is a new player, you will need to create a profile using your email address and a password.
The following table outlines the registration fees for the NYKHA for the 2020-2021 hockey season.
Division | 1st Instalment (June 1st ) | 2nd Instalment (TBD) | Total |
